Pumped-storage hydro plant planned for Vietnam

Vietnam is planning to build a pumped-storage hydro project with total capacity of 1,500 megawatts in the country’s northern province of Son La in 2013, the government reported.

Government officials have given an in-principle approval to the construction of the hydropower plant, wire reports indicate.

The plant will be the first pumped-storage hydropower project in the country and is designed to be environmentally-friendly, reports indicate.

The plant is expected to be operational in 2018, according to reports.

Recently, Vietnam-based infrastructure development company Cavico Corp. announced its majority owned subsidiary, Cavico Mining, was awarded a contract to construct an access road at Vietnam’s Ban Chat hydro project.
