Promoting Vietnam-US trade and education
Education cooperation will be one of important pillars in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the US.
Vietnam’s ambassador to the US, Nguyen Quoc Cuong, made this statement at the ninth conference of the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) held in Shreveport, Lousiana from January 3-5.
Ambassador Cuong met with Vietnamese students studying in the US under the VEF programme and told them about the Vietnam’s current situation, investment policies, and development as well as its determination to train highly qualified human resources. He affirmed that the country will continue sending more students to study overseas, especially in the US, to serve the national process of industrialization and modernization.
He praised the students’ academic results and said he is delighted that increasingly more Vietnamese students intend to pursue post-graduate and doctoral degrees. He told them there will be many opportunities for them when they return to Vietnam.
On the occasion, Ambassador Cuong met with several state representatives in Louisiana and discussed measures to boost cooperation between Vietnam and the state.
The representatives praised Vietnam’s socio-economic development, as well as its position in the region and the world, and expressed their interest in fostering bilateral ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Cuong thanked them for their support of bilateral ties and discussed other issues of concern, including the East Sea, religious freedom, and State policies for overseas Vietnamese.
Cuong also met with the mayors of Lafayette and New Orleans, who would like to boost cooperation with Vietnam in tourism and oil and maritime services, which are their strengths.
He held talks with businesspeople from more than 40 local enterprises and called on them to invest in Vietnam.
Lafayette Mayor Joey Durel also presented honourary Louisiana citizenship to ambassador Cuong.VOV
