Promoting ASEAN telelcom cooperation

The 16th ASEAN Telecommunication Senior Officials Meeting (TELSOM) was held in Hanoi on July 7 to share information and experience in developing policies and management efficiency to keep ASEAN telecom grouping in member countries.

The meeting provided a good chance for telelecom managers to give updates technological achievements in telecom as well as information and technology (IT) sectors in ASEAN countries and regional partners.

During the three-day meeting, ASEAN delegates are to discuss solutions to boost cooperation among members in important fields related to the telelecom sector such as using frenquencies for disaster control and mitigation, using TV digital technology and roaming services between ASEAN mobile networks.

The meeting will also review international activities, in which ASEAN has participated as a member, including the APEC Telecommunications and Information Working Group (APEC TEL), Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

There will be working sessions between ASEAN and its important partners such as China, Japan and the EU.
