Preparations for Tet goods almost completed

The consumer price index (CPI) follows an upward trend as the Traditional Lunar New Year Festival or Tet is drawing near. To stabilise the market price, Hanoi has allocated VND400 billion to help supermarkets prepare Tet goods.

A Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reporter interviewed the Chairman of the Hanoi Supermarkets Association, Vu Vinh Phu, on the issue.

Reporter: How have supermarkets prepared Tet goods as the lunar New Year celebration is approaching?

Mr Phu: All basic preparations for Tet goods have been completed. We have coordinated with the municipal administration to ensure security during the Tet holiday as the number of customers flocking to supermarkets is three or four times high above normal. Last year, some supermarkets fetched billions of VND in sales revenue a day. Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to better server customers.

The Hanoi Supermarkets Association has asked supermarkets to list prices and ensure food hygiene and safety and sufficient supply of goods for Tet.

Reporter: More than VND400 billion has been used to stabilise the prices of 9 essential goods. What has this done?

Mr Phu: The supermarkets have so far stored 90 percent of their goods volume. With more than VND400 billion for price stabilization, supermarkets have fully prepared Tet goods for sale. This year’s purchasing power is predicted to reach 15 percent, 5 percent less than the same period last year.

Reporter: Thank you very much. – VOV
