Preferred electricity prices for the poor
The ratios of poor households and low-income households that are enjoying preferred electricity prices in big cities (Hanoi, HCM City…) account for only 22% and 18.6%, respectively.
The figure was reported by Vietnam Electricity Authority to Ministry of Industry and Trade about these households with the electricity consumption of less than 50 kWh a month.
The latest data of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) showed that by May 15, the number of these kinds of households were 4.5 million including 3.3 million (19.63%) that are buying electricity directly from power companies and 2.3 million are using electricity sold by retailers.
The Authority said that the number of poor and low-income customers registering to enjoy preferred electricity prices is modest compared with the real number of households using less than 50 kWh a month. Especially, the ratio in big cities is not high, particularly in Hanoi at only 22%, HCM City 18.6% and Da Nang 26.7%.
From March 1, the average electricity price this year is 1,242 dong per kWh, 165 dong/kWh higher than the 2010 level. In which, the progressive price applied on the low-income households (from 0 kWh to 50 kWh) is 80% of the average level of 2011. – Vietbiz24
