Plastic industry growth expected at 15pct/year

At Vietnam Manufacturing Expo and Nepcon Vietnam 2010 held last weekend, Ho Dac Lam, vice president of Vietnam Plastic Association expected that the country’s plastic industry growth will be kept stable at 15 percent pa.

He reported that up to 80 percent of plastic produced in Vietnam is for domestic consumption. Majority of plastic materials is imported from Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, Europe and Middle East.

Also, Chanin Khaochan in charge of director of the industrial association development office under Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) addressed, Vietnamese enterprises need to update market demand as well as technology to meet that demand.

“Absolutely, Vietnam is the big market as for us [Thai plastic material suppliers] and many Thai firms paying attention to investments here”, Chanin Khaochan added.
