Pepper Output to Fall 30% to 20,000 Tons in Vietnam Highlands Province

Total pepper output in Vietnam’s central highlands province of Gia Lai is expected to drop 30% from a year earlier to 20,000 tons.
Bad weather and pest attacks in 2009 caused the reduction.

Vietnam is expected to produce 100,000 tons of pepper this year, unchanged from the previous crop, the Vietnam Pepper Association said.

In 2009, the country exported 137,000 tons of pepper valued at US$356 million.
