Official rejects rumor on new petrol price hike

A rumor that gasoline price is about to increase by VND2,700 a liter to VND24,000 a liter is circulating in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh but it is false.

This news began to spread through the Yahoo! Messenger on Monday afternoon.

Since Tuesday afternoon, some gasoline stations in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi expressed concern about a possible price hike.

A leader of PV Oil, who heard the rumor one week ago, said the rumour came about probably due to a hike in world gasoline prices.

A leader of Vietnam’s biggest oil and gasoline supplier, Petrolimex, asserted this is baseless. “We have not received any such information from authorities,” he said.

Nguyen Tien Thoa, price management bureau chief of the Ministry of Finance said gasoline price fluctuations on the world market are true but the management agency, he added, continues to observe and has not yet adopted any adjustment scheme. – Tuoitre
