Ninth mobile phone network debuts

Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) officially became the ninth provider of mobile phone services in Vietnam on June 22 as the Ministry of Information and Communication granted it a licence to launch such services on the 3G platform.

Accordingly, VTC will provide mobile 3G services based on the infrastructure of the EVN Telecom company, which is connected to the current GSM mobile networks. VTC will have its own prefix and network codes.

VTC Director General Thai Minh Tan said his firm will build on the available 3G infrastructure to create new products and services for users. The company, he said, will officially launch such services nationwide by the end of 2010.

At the licence-granting ceremony, Minister of Information and Communication Le Doan Hop said this move will help increase the efficiency of using the nation’s mobile phone number resource and reduce state investment in the field of mobile services. – VOV
