According to a resolution on the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project, it will include two plants, each with two turbine groups and a capacity of 2,000 MW. Once completed, the plants will supply electricity to the national grid, thus contributing to the country’s socio-economic development in general and Ninh Thuan province in particular.

The first power plant will be located in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district while the second one will be built in Vinh Hai commune, Ninh Hai district.

Work on the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear plant will begin in 2014 and the first turbine is expected to be operational by 2020.

On the same day, the NA also passed a resolution on investment in the Lai Chau Hydroelectric Power Project, with the construction beginning in late 2010 and finishing in 2017.

The resolution states that the construction of Lai Chau Hydroelectric Power Station will provide electricity for the national grid and will together with other power plants along the Da River serve socio-economic development in Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces and the whole northwestern region as well.

Located in Nam Hang commune, Muong Te district, the 1,200 MW plant will be built at an estimated cost of 32.6 trillion VND (1.8 billion USD). The first turbine is expected to start generating electricity in 2016.

Also later in the day, the NA’s deputies approved several amendments and supplements to the Law on Education and the Law on Natural Resources Tax./.
