Ninh Thuan boosts investment attraction in wind and solar power

Ninh Thuan Economic Development Office (EDO under the provincial Department of Planning and Investment) said it attracted over 35 trillion dong of investment capital for the wind and solar power industry in March alone, the local newswire VnExpress reported on Thursday.

The prominent project is Belgium’s Phuoc Nam Enfinity renewable energy plant with a designed capacity of 124.5 MW, which is estimated to cost total 5.2 trillion dong. It is located in a site of 553 hectares in Thuan Nam district. The municipal government is due to continue granting investment certificates to more four wind and solar projects amounting to over 10 trillion dong in investment.

Ninh Thuan is assessed to be one of high potential provinces in wind energy development, on a total area of 8,000 hectares mainly centralized in Ninh Phuoc and Thuan Bac Districts. Wind speed averages 7.1 meter per second, and at the high of 65 meters, the wind density ranges between 400 to 500 W per square meter, the highest level in the southern region, its Committee chairman Nguyen Chi Dung said.

The province also has a high potential of solar energy. Average sunshine duration is 2,600-2,800 hours a year with annual temperature of about 10,000oC. Therefore, developing solar and wind power becomes the key development strategy of Ninh Thuan towards the goal of tourism and green energy centre in Vietnam in future. – Vietbiz24
