Nghe An speeds up milk

The central province of Nghe An and the TH Milk Joint Stock Company of Hanoi are speeding up the implementation of a large-scale dairy cow breeding and milk processing project in Nghia Dan district.

Based on advanced Israeli technology, the 350 million USD project, the biggest of its kind in Vietnam in both scale and investment capital, is expected to meet 30 percent of domestic demand.

The project will develop eight farms, each breeding 2,400 dairy cows, and build a 500-tonne-a-day milk processing plant.

The project is scheduled to produce its first milk products in 2011 after three years’ construction.

Secretary of the Nghe An Party Provincial Committee Tran Van Hang said that the project will also help reduce the number of workers in the agricultural sector and raise the proportion of husbandry in Nghe An’s agriculture production value to 50 percent in 2010.
