New steel mill to be built in Lao Cai Province

Viet Trung Mining and Metallurgy Co Ltd has recently kicked off construction works on a new cast iron and steel mill with designed capacity of 1 million tonnes per year.

The project, with total investment capital of over $337 million, is sited in Tang Loong Industrial Zone, Lao Cai province.

This is the second largest iron and steel complex in Vietnam after Thai Nguyen Steel and Cast Iron Complex. In the first phase, the new metallurgical complex will be equipped with modern production lines having designed capacity of 500,000 tonnes of steel billet per year. The construction was expected to be completed in 2012. In the second phase lasting from 2012 to 2015, the steel mill will build the second production lines by additional 500,000 tonnes to 1 million tonnes of steel billet per year, and produce 500,000 tonnes of scrolled steel per year. – Vietbiz24
