New Postal Law to take effect in January

The Draft Postal Law, which becomes effective on January 1 next year, will have 10 charpters and 46 articles regulating provision, investment, quality, fees and the rights and responsibilities of service providers.

It will also cover stamps, dispute settlement and compensation, and extent of the State’s responsibility.

The Draft Postal Law is designed to meet growing demand during the country’s socio-economic development.

Officials said the law would overcome the shortcomings of the previous Telecoms Law promulgated in 2002.

The Draft Postal Law was approved by the Government at its monthly meeting in April 2009.
