New phone subscribers drop by 16.8pct

The number of new phone subscribers reached 8 million in the first nine months of this year, a 16.8 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Of the new subscribers, 43,900 were for fixed-telephones and 7.9 million for mobile phones.

At the end of September there were 129.7 million phone subscribers nationwide.

Meanwhile, the General Statistics Office reported that there were 4.1 million new internet subscribers in the first nine months of the year, 18 per cent more than the same period last year.

There are now 31.7 million internet subscribers nationwide.
