New bridge opens, celebrates province’s anniversary
Hung Vuong Bridge was inaugurated yesterday in the central province of Phu Yen in celebration of the province’s 400th year of formation and development.
Construction of the 1.3 kilometre bridge began in early 2006, costing the local Department of Transport VND477 billion (US$25.8 million).
It connects the centre of Tuy Hoa City with the area around the port of Vung Ro and at 18 metres wide, it boasts four lanes and two sidewalks.
“The project, as part of the Song Cau-Vung Ro coastal traffic line, has met the insistent expectations of Tuy Hoa citizens in particular and Phu Yen residents in general,” said the department’s deputy director Nguyen Trong Su.
“The bridge’s opening for public use today and its connection to the port in the future will create motivation for faster socio-economic growth in the province,” he said.
Provincial People’s Committee Chairman Pham Dinh Cu stressed the importance of the bridge in boosting the development of the city’s key economic zone in the south, especially the industrial parks and urban areas.
He urged the transport department, project managers and contractors to complete electricity and traffic island systems soon in order to transfer the bridge to the city in the second quarter. — VNS
