Network providers race before super promotion programs end
Instead of launching super promotion programmes (presenting 100 percent-150 percent of the value of paid-in cards) as previously, the large mobile network providers started to cut down the promotion value but increase number of promotion programmes for customers.
One leader of the large network provider explained that the subscribers have already got addicted to promotion programmes, so if the providers halted the promotion policies, the gained revenue may be reduced.
Therefore, all mobile providers in the market have concentrated on attracting customers via launching promotion programmes before July 1.
Within the past week, VinaPhone has offered two promotion programmes.
The first one lasted from May 15 to 17, in which the large mobile network provider offered 100 percent of the value of paid-in cards for selected subscribers. In the second phase lasting for two days with lower value of paid in cards by 50 percent. In May only, VinaPhone has launched five promotion programmes, compared to the frequency of two times per month previously.
After launching the super promotion programme of 170 percent of value of paid-in cards for selected subscribers, MobiFone has offered two other programmes of 50 percent of value of paid-in cards so far. The large communication firm launched the latest promotion programmes lasting from May 25-27 for pre-paid subscribers.
The military-run Viettel Telecom has conducted the similar promotion programme of offering 50 percent of value of paid in cards for Viettel pre-paid subscribers within the period of May 26-28.
According to the new regulations issued by Ministry of Communication and Information, from July 1 onwards, the mobile network providers have to limit their promotion rate of below 50 percent and yearly promotion period of no longer than 90 days.
The leaders of large mobile networks announced that within the coming months, the telecommunication markets may witness various demand-promotion methods. The large network providers may avoid violating the laws by increasing the frequency of launching promotion programmes of three or four times a month, and lowering the value of paid-in cards at 50 percent.
The small mobile network provider of Beeline chose its own way to compete in the telecommunication market. After nearly three months of stopping BigZero package, Beeline has already launched the pre-paid package of Bonus+ with various preferential policies. In addition, from May 27, Beeline will offer additional 50 percent of value of first five paid-in cards for subscribers activating the Bonus+ package on May 14.
The three other network providers of S-Fone, EVNTelecom and Vietnamobile haven’t offered any promotion programmes for pre-paid subscribers in this race. EVN was busy with launching 3G network in June. Meanwhile, S-Fone offered promotion programmes for employees in industrial zones and Vietnam mobile has continued current programmes that offered valuable gifts or tours for lucky winners.
There are about 20 million people in Vietnam who have so far not used mobile phones, equal to about 30 million subscribers, belonging to group of low-income people. Therefore, the period before July 1 is considered as key period for mobile network providers to attract customers.
