Most overseas Vietnamese wish to own homes in VN: survey

A recent survey by the Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association and real estate group Novaland showed that 60.1 percent of overseas Vietnamese would like to buy high-end homes and other real estate in Vietnam

The survey was carried out during a gathering held in Ho Chi Minh City by the association and Novaland for nearly 400 overseas Vietnamese who had returned to Vietnam for Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations last month.

To meet overseas Vietnamese’ demand for information about the real estate market and relevant legal procedures in Vietnam, Novaland, investor of the Sunrise City Project in HCMC, said it would offer free information services to overseas Vietnamese currently living in Australia, the US, the UK, and Europe.

Attending the gathering, standing deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tai said, “The State considers overseas Vietnamese an indispensable part of the Vietnamese nation and highly appreciates their contributions to the country’s development.”

In that spirit, the State has applied new laws – like the Vietnam Nationality Law, Law on House and Land Ownership – aimed at assisting overseas Vietnamese in purchasing homes in Vietnam, he said.

“The city authorities will ask the Government to create more favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese who want to possess houses in the country,” he added.

“Currently, nearly 4 million Vietnamese are living in more than 100 countries and territories around the world, of whom 2 million originate from HCMC,” said Dr. Luong Bach Van, chairwoman of the HCMC Overseas Vietnamese Liaison Association, who also attended the gathering.

“About 200 overseas Vietnamese experts are working at the HCMC National University,” she added.
