More than $411m to build Trung Son hydropower plant

The prime minister on May 16 approved a negotiation agreement to borrow capital for Trung Son hydropower plant capitalized at $411.72 million in the northern province of Thanh Hoa, according to the information from Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
Of which, loan from The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under the World Bank (WB) will be $330 million and $81.72 million remaining will be corresponding capital from the Vietnamese government.

The government has also authorized the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)’s governor on behalf of the state to sign loan agreement with WB and other related legal documents for the project.

Trung Son hydropower project is built on the Ma River in Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, with the goal of providing electricity and helping control floods.

The plant with a capacity of 260 MW and annual power output of 1.55 GWh is expected to be in operational by 2018.
