More incentives expected for wind-power projects

Investors will enjoy tax exemption for importing machines and equipment for wind power generators.

The investors of wind power projects will likely enjoy a higher power selling price plus preferential taxes, according to a draft master plan for wind power development just submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

Le Tan Phong, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Department’s Energy Department, said the master plan submitted to the Government last week tentative put the selling price for all investors at 7.8 US cents per kWh. This amount include one cent subsidized by the State Budget, Phong told the Daily.

The master plan, if approved, will create a much-needed framework for developing wind power in the country, he said after the ministry had a seminar on wind power development late last week in Hanoi.

Furthermore, the investors will enjoy tax exemption for importing machines and equipment for wind power generators, exemption of land use as well as an environment protection fee for the whole implementing time of the project.

According to the energy department, the country currently has 42 wind power projects in total with a combined generating capacity of 3,906 MW, some of these projects having already operated in Binh Thuan Province. – SGT
