More employers advertise job vacancies over internet

More Vietnamese employers are advertising job openings on the internet, according to a survey by VietnamWorks, a job recruitment company.

In the third quarter of this year alone, the number of openings advertised online rose by 34 per cent compared to the same period last year, while the number of persons seeking work via the internet rose by 27 per cent, according to the survey.

“Since the first quarter, we have been seeing that the online labour market in Viet Nam growing positively, with an increase in both online labour demand and online labour supply,” said VietnamWorks CEO Chris Harvey.

“However, the labour supply has been growing faster than labour demand, showing that the job-seekers are now more proactive in finding their dream jobs,” Harvey said.

More employers were seeking workers in marketing, while the number of employers seeking workers in accounting/finance, administrative/clerical work, and IT fields had remained stable or fallen, he said.

In the third quarter alone, the demand for talent in marketing grew by 5 per cent compared to the second quarter, with the rising number of openings in this field attributed to rising competition among firms during the economic recovery.

The rivalry among brands had become more intense, Harvey said, and businesses were investing more heavily in buiding stronger brands and differentiating themselves from their competitors.

Among job seekers, the most popular fields among those seeking work over the internet were accounting/finance, administrative/clerical, human resources, customer service and sales. The number of job seekers in these fields had risen by 10-19 per cent over the second quarter.

Surveyed according to industry, the number of positions advertised online grew 25 per cent in the electronics industry, 20 per cent in manufacturing, and 12 per cent in construction/engineering. Job listings in accounting/auditing remained flat, and while jobs in banking declined 14 per cent from the second quarter.

Among job seekers, however, banking continued to be the most popular industry, followed by accounting/auditing, electronics, construction/engineering and the hospitality sector, including airlines. — VNS
