Moit propose to remove “temporary import for re-export”
Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) is going to propose the government to eliminate the “temporary import for re-export” .
“Temporary import for re-export” or “import for export” is an aperture for individuals and organizations to import inferior, bad even banned and hazardous goods into Vietnam, Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of MoIT explained the reason for “import for export” elimination.
Hundreds of tons of contaminated meat, thousands of tons of waste were imported to Vietnam through “temporary import for re-export”, Hoang mentioned, adding that importers declared “import for export” but they smuggled these goods into the domestic market.
Recently in Ho Chi Minh city, authorities discovered nearly 15 tons of imported frozen beef which are poor quality but with authorized certification. The meat was imported through “temporary import for re-export”.
Besides, among 5,000 imported cars under “import for export” from 2003 to present only 1,000 pcs were re-export or re-imported, MoIT said.
Ministry of Finance (MoF) also proposed MoiT not to grant “temporary import for re-export” for violated businesses. Ministries will propose government not to apply “import for export” for special consumption goods such as alcohol, tobacco and scraps/ wastes.
