Mobile phone subscribers see 30-fold increase against fixed phone in Apr

During the first four months this year, total number of phone subscribers reached 13.4 million, up 25.1 percent against the same period last year, according to the general Statistic Office (GSO).

In Jan-Apr, total number of new mobile phone subscribers was 12.6 million, rising 31.3 percent year-on-year, whereas fixed phone subscribers decreased 27.3 percent from a year earlier to 815,000.

Till the end of April, the country had about 143.8 million phone subscribers, a year-on-year increase of 56.2 percent, including 19.9 million fixed phone subscribers, rising 30.4 percent, and 123.9 million mobile phone subscribers, up 61.4 percent y-o-y.
Till the end of March, Vietnam’s total number of phone subscribers reached 137.6 million including 19.7 million fixed phone subscribers and 117.9 million mobile phone ones. Thus, in April alone, the total number of new mobile phone subscribers was six million, a 30-fold increase against 200,000 fixed phone subscribers.

Particularly, till the end of April, Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT)’s phone subscribers reached 71.3 million, up 31.9 percent year-on-year including 11.6 million fixed phone subscribers, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent, and 59.7 million mobile phone ones, rising 38 percent y-o-y.
Also according to GSO, the country’s total number of broadband Internet subscribers reached about 3.2 million till the end of April, up 35.6 percent y-o-y, of which, VNPT’s figure was 2.3 million, up 49.8 percent.

Additionally, the total number of Internet users increased 14.8 percent year-on-year, reaching 24.3 million people.

GSO said that total net revenue of post and telecommunication sector in Jan-April was estimated at 35.2 trillion dong, up 42.6 percent y-o-y, of which, VNPT’s figure was 23.9 trillion dong, rising 40.7 percent y-o-y.
