Mobile network providers race to lower 3G charges

VinaPhone has lately announced to lower nearly 50 percent of charges for pre-paid Mobile Broadband package. Meanwhile, MobiFone plans to adjust FastConnect charges in the next few days and Viettel allowed deducting charges from sub-accounts for D-Com subscribers.

In details, from June 22, 2010 VinaPhone will use new charges for pre-paid subscribers of Mobile Broadband services. The customers will have to pay charges equal to 50 percent of the old one. In details, for each paid-in card valued at 10,000 dong, the customers can use up to 150 MB, instead of 80 MB as previously. For those paid-in cards with face value of below 100,000 dong, the average Mobile Broadband charge was 65 dong per megabyte, while 60 dong per megabyte for paid-in cards of over 100,000 dong.

MobiFone announced to prepare for adjusting the charges for FastConnect 3G subscribers, similar to that of VinaPhone.

According to VinaPhone’s representative, the mobile network provider’s decision to lower Mobile Broadband charges was to encourage the customers to use 3G services. However, in fact, it was VinaPhone’s reaction movement when Viettel announced to sharply reduce D-Com 3G charges previously. The charges that VinaPhone imposed on pre-paid Mobile Broadbank subscribers were similar to that of Viettel at 65 dong per megabyte.

Before this charge reduction period, Viettel had introduced the market its data simcard, with main account value of 50,000 dong for using 3G services. Meanwhile, MobiFone and VinaPhone allowed the customers to use up all the value in sub-account of 160,000 dong for 3G services. That was the main reason explaining for the fact that the actual 3G charges for Viettel’s subscribers were higher than VinaPhone and MobiFone.

After lowering the charges, Viettel also offer promotion programmes for its USB 3G purchasers who use the network provider’s pre-paid services with gifted 500 MB per month in the account within the period of six consecutive months. However, the customers who had bought data simcards previously will not be benefited from this promotion programme.
