Ministry reports 31.65m tonnes of cement consumed in Jan-Aug
The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction reported that in August only, Vietnam has consumed 3.41 million tonnes of cement, raising the accumulative consumption volume in the first eight months to 31.65 million tonnes, equalling to 58 percent against the targeted year plan.
In addition, the cement producers have exported about 2.8 million tonnes of clinker and cement so far.
In 2011, the ministry has estimated the whole country’s cement demand of about 54.5-56 million tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 9-10 percent. Of which, Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) was expected to produce and sell about 19-19.5 million tonnes while other joint ventures companies of 17-17.5 million tonnes, and other cement producers of 18.5-19 million tonnes.
As planned, there would be 10 cement projects to be finished and put into operation this year with production capacity of 9.48 million tonnes. Two projects have already been completed and the other eight projects supposed to be finished this year.
