Mekong Delta to host trade and tourism fair

A trade, tourism and investment fair will be held in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Province of An Giang from May 21-26.

The fair hopes to promote investment in the border areas between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

The annual fair is part of the national trade promotion programme, which is organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Trade Promotion Agency, An Giang Province’s Investment and Trade Promotion Center, and the CIAT Advertising and Trade Fair Joint Stock Company.

Vuong Dinh Ngan, deputy head of the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency, said the event would help promote cultural exchange and co-operation in trade, tourism and investment between Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Companies from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and France will be among those in attendance at the event, which will take place at the Tinh Bien International Border Gate’s Xuan To Industrial Park.

The event will have 500 stalls that will display agricultural produce, seafood, processed foods, consumer items, garment and textiles, footwear, machinery, construction materials, furniture and handicrafts as well as tourism products of the Mekong Delta.

Along with the fair, seminars and talks would be held with the aim to provide local enterprises with insight about working with businesses in the Cambodian market, said Nguyen Ngoc Em, director of An Giang Province’s Investment and Trade Promotion Center.

Many co-operation contracts between Vietnamese and Cambodian enterprises were expected to be signed during the fair, he added.

The six day event is expected to attract more than 140,000 visitors, with 25 per cent coming from Cambodia. — VNS
