Many new hydropower plants to be put into operation soon

Authorities inThua Thien‐Hue province announced lately that within the period of 2011‐2015, the province will put hydropower plants with total designed capacity of about 500MW into operation.

There are five on‐going hydropower plant projects to be carried out including A Luoi, Huong Dien, Binh Dien, Alin B1 and Ta Trach with total capacity of 360 MW.

Apart from Ta Trach project with functions of irrigation works to prevent flood and supply water for the lower areas, the remaining projects have main function of providing commercial electricity.

At present, the contractors have finished construction work on two over three turbines, of which the first turbine had joined the national grid and the second one to be put into operation, and the third one to start operation in Q3.

When in operation, the three turbines of Huong Dien hydropower plant are expected to supply over 300 million KWh per year to the national grid. The first turbine of A Luoi hydropower plant was supposed to be operated in early Q2. – Vietbiz24
