Make Breakthrough by Forming Youthful Air-crew
Vietnam Airline Corporation (Vietnam Airlines) plans to raise its squadron to 150 in 2020 and become the second biggest airlines in the Southeast Asian region by that time. To this end, the airlines has placed due attention to training a youthful air-crew. Vietnam Business Forum’s reporter Luu Hiep had an interview with Mr Hoang Van Manh, head of Air-crew No. 919 about this issue.
Air-crew No. 919 plays an important role in development of Vietnam’s aviation sector. What is the Air-crew preparing for the integration?
The Air-crew No. 919 has made considerable achievements since it was founded 50 years ago. It was awarded the title of Hero of the people’s armed forces in 1994, the first Labour Order in 2004 and the Ho Chi Minh Order on May 19, 2009.
The Air-crew successfully conducted 140,000 flying hours, 67,000 flights with over 8.7 million passengers in 2008.
The corporation’s Air-crew as well as Vietnam’s aviation sector has made a breakthrough in technology transfers. All pilots now can operate all modern aircrafts and their skills are regularly improved. In addition, the Air-crew has been honoured to serve Government and Party leaders who have visits to foreign countries in addition to training, geological survey and photo-taking flights.
In the renewal period, the Air-crew is taking responsibility to manage the whole flight route network and carry passengers and goods domestically and internationally. “Modernizing aircrafts and standardizing Air-crew†are Vietnam Airlines’ targets.
What is the Air-crew doing to make itself youthful?
To ensure smooth operation of the whole air route network and sustainable aircrafts, due attention should be paid to human resource training in the coming time, particularly Air-crew who will operate modern aircrafts meeting the European and the U.S. standards.
Making the Air-crew youthful is considered a daring move by the Air-crew No. 919 in particular and by Vietnam Airlines in general, which is of great importance and significance to the international development process. The aviation industry always takes the lead in applying the most advanced and modern science and technology.
The Air-crew No. 919 has been tightly coordinating with the Flight Training Centre and Viet Flight Training Joint Stock Company to hold human resource training courses, improve teachers’ quality and professionalism in combination with upgrading teaching and learning equipment and facilities.
Vietnam Airlines leaders have placed due attention to human resource training for the Air-crew No. 919 for years, particularly young people. Vietnam Airlines is hiring so that one fourth of its work force is foreign pilots. The setup of Bay Viet Training is aimed at providing high-quality human resource for domestic aviation sector, saving time and costs.
Pilot training is special work, particularly the human element because they must have good health, professionalism, responsibility and discipline. The training, however, has not yet met with increasing demand. Thus, it is essential to facilitate human resource training for airlines to operate up to 150 aircrafts in the coming time.
We hope that the Air-crew No. 919 will continue to receive support from Vietnam Airlines to boost human resource training and enhance financial competence in the near term to keep up with the development of the world’s aviation as well as gradually substitute foreign pilots with domestic high-quality personnel.
