Long An industrial parks still unoccupied
Most of the land in industrial parks in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Long An has not been leased while local residents have expressed concern about the unused land, according to local news reports.
More than 790ha out of 9,734ha in 23 Long An’s industrial parks, many of which are equipped with infrastructure, is unoccupied, the Vietnam News Agency quoted local sources as saying.
At the Duc Hoa No 3 IP, which has an area of 2,300ha, 360ha has received official site clearance. Of the area, only 28ha has been leased to 23 companies.
The Duc Hoa No1 IP has leased 144.67ha out of 757ha to 149 companies after opening 10 years ago.
Local residents said they were surprised that the provincial People’s Committee approved expansion of another IP when only 70 per cent of the IP land was occupied.
The 307ha Phu An Thanh IP had cleared 130ha and leased only 16ha when the People’s Committee decided to expand the IP to 692ha.
Farmers had harvested high-yield crops twice a year on the land, and had given up their land to the IP.
Provincial authorities have been reluctant to fine IP investors or resolve IP projects for fear of driving away investors, according to the source. — VNS
