Vietnam Supply Chain Insight will hold Logistics and Supply Chain Solutions Exhibition (Logso 2010) in Ho Chi Minh City Jul 29-30.

Logso 2010 is expected to attract 10,000 officials from 20 foreign companies which engage in services of logistics, port, ICD, warehouses, code readers and transport management equipment.

A survey covering 500 Vietnamese enterprises showed that 76% of them want to be provided consultancies of inventory management, 72% have demand on code readers and 65% are interested in information technology solutions.

Currently, ten foreign logistics corporations including Maersk Logistics, MITSUI OSK, APL and Logitem dominate the market, while the local firms account for just 35% of the market share.

By end-2009, Vietnam had between 800 and 900 logistics companies. Up to 700 logistics firms are based in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam’s demand for logistics services is forecast to soar in coming years and the sector contributes up to 15% of the country’s GDP, experts said, adding that, more foreign firms are eager to enter the Vietnamese logistics market.

However, Nguyen Hung, office manager for the Vietnam Freight Forwarders Association said that the domestic logistics industry faces a lot of difficulties, especially the underdeveloped transport infrastructure.
