Lefaso Launches EC-funded Shoes Industry Assistance Project
The Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association (Lefaso) has launched a EUR249,995 project “Renovation and Trademark: The tools for competition in global markets,†with EUR224,995 funded by the European Commission.
The project, to be carried out for two years in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, is part of the Multilateral Trade Assistance Project III (EU-Vietnam MUTRAP III).
The project will assist domestic shoes makers in market assessment solutions and building of trademarks of Vietnam-made leather shoes to sharpen the competitiveness on the global markets.
Vietnam’s leather and footwear is among the country’s key export items and currently the world’s second biggest exporter.
However, experts affirmed the footwear industry is facing challenges such as dependence on imported materials, unstable laborers and weak facilities.
Vietnam expects to earn US$4.7 billion from footwear exports this year.
However, the sector’s ten-month export turnover met only 66% of the plan. (CPV, Banking Times)
