Leather and shoe export in August increases by 19pct

Vietnam Leather & Footwear Association (Lefaso) reported that the country’s total leather and shoe export turnover in August continued maintaining high growth rate at over $450 million, raising the accumulative export turnover in the whole industry to $3.221 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19 percent.

Especially, export of handbags, wallets, suitcases an umbrellas brought in $624 million in the first eight months of 2010, surging by 24.6 percent against the same period of last year.

The association predicted that in the rest four months, Vietnam’s leather and shoe sector may not only fulfil the targeted export turnover of $4.6 billion, but can reach over $5 billion.
