Largest wind power project gets nod
The government has given approval in principle to a 200- MW wind power project to be developed in Binh Thuan Province by the HCM City-based Saigon Investment Group by listing it in the power development master plan.
Dinh Huy Hiep, vice chair of Binh Thuan Wind Power Association, told the Saigon Times that the project, which has just been added into the national power scheme No.6, will be the country’s largest wind power project until now with an average investment budget of some $2.2 million for each MW of generation capacity, or some $440 million in its total cost.
Binh Thuan has also submitted to the government for final approval a master plan for wind power development in the province with total designed generating capacity up to 1,500MW between 2010 and 2015.
The national power scheme No.6 was created for the country’s power development during the period of 2006-2015, with a vision to 2025. So far, Binh Thuan authorities have approved 12 wind power projects with total capacity of some 2,000MW. Most of the projects are in the coastal districts of Tuy Phong, Ham Thuan Bac and Bac Binh. The first five turbines of a wind power project in Tuy Phong District developed by Vietnam Renewable Energy Joint Stock Company will start generation this month. The province will organise a seminar for wind power development late this week.
Recently, the government has agreed to add a 99- MW wind power project developed in the southern province of Bac Lieu by Cong Ly Construction and Trading Company to the national power scheme No 6. according to the government’s website, the developer of Bac Lieu wind power project will enjoy referential policies in developing clean energy. The project has investment capital of some 5 trillion dong. – Saigon Times
