Joint Communication Campaign for Prevention of Domestic Violence in Vietnam
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Family Department – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), Peace and Development (PyD), a Spanish NGO for Development, mass organizations, the UN, and many other international and local non-governmental organizations launched, on November 25th,the Joint Communication Campaign for Prevention of Domestic Violence in Vietnam “Minh la Dan Ong†(I am a man).
Through this campaign, the objective is to involve actively men and invite them to be a new role model of a man who does not use or condone domestic violence, a man who is believes in gender equality and can express: “I am a man. I am against domestic violence!â€Â
The joint communication campaign is part of a long term project started in 2008 integrating the efforts and work of many organizations. The campaign is targeting men as a strategy to propose positive roles that men can take in helping to prevent and stop domestic violence, as a way to reach out to the majority of men in Vietnam.
This launching event kicks off mass-communication activities from November 25, 2009 to March 30, 2010. Activites will include media advertising such as TV spots and radio spots, TV talk shows, billboard and bus advertisements, a campaign website, advertisments on key websites, newspapers and magazines, flyers, and posters. The website of the campaign iswww.minhladanong.com, where people can see the TV spots, materials of the campaign, important resources on domestic violence, profiles of campaign members, and where to seek assistance in cases of violence.
At the same time, the campaign will carry out interpersonal communication activities to reach out to men in society. In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, trained teams will visit many public places around the cities and provide information through flyers and information to thousands of men. ‘Dialogue group’ activities will complement the campaign in 12 provinces (Ben Tre, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa).
