Jica supports feasibility studies for constructing Long Thanh Airport

Ministry of transport has lately approved the suggestion from ministry of planning and investment for signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) for making research to build Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA).

The main purpose of this research was to evaluate the feasibility of the project as well as to suggest carrying out the project under PPP (public-private partnership) method.

At present, ministry of transport is seeking for opinions from concerning ministries for the general report about detailed construction project given by Japanese Airport Consulting Co (JAC) in order to submit the prime minister for approval.

Accordingly, Long Thanh International Airport was sited in Long Thanh Dist, Dong Nai province. During the first phase of the project (2020-2030), the airport will be built as the regional airport with transportation capacity of 44.5 million passengers and 1.2 tonnes of commodity per year by 2030.

The construction work on this project was supposed to start in 2018 with estimated construction cost of $6.048 billion, excluding compensation charges, cost for ground clearance and resettlement purposes. – Dautu
