JICA helps operate urban railway in HCM City

A company involved in urban railway operation and maintenance will be set up in HCM City in 2013 with assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This is part of the first phase of a technical assistance project signed between JICA and HCM City recently.

According to JICA, HCM City plans to put some urban railways into use in the next five to seven years helping to ease traffic jams, improve traffic safety and solve the problem of air pollution.

HCM’s first urban railway, Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien route is already under construction, using loans from the Japanese government. The first loan worth 20,887 million JPY (approximately US$255 million) was signed in 2007 and future loans are expected to be considered and signed in the coming years – VOV
