Jetstar Pacific changes head of maintenance

Le Song Lai, the provisional Chairman of Jetstar Pacific Airlines will take the post of head of the air carrier’s maintenance division and replace the former general director who has resigned.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has received a document informing them of the news.

An official of CAAV said that under the current regulations, air carriers all must have the heads in charge of organizing aircraft maintenance.

Right after undertaking the new post, Lai has immediately started strengthening the flight assurance system, checking documents and the maintenance process and restructuring personnel.

Lai is now also temporarily taking the post of general director of Jetstar Pacific Airlines until a new general director is accredited.

CAAV said that it has reached preliminary conclusions following technical inspection tours of Jetstar Pacific which were conducted following the criticism of the airline for ignoring safety regulations.  The accusations were made by a foreign engineer of the airline. CAAV is now collecting feedback from the airline as per current regulations.

Jetstar Pacific has been requested to give feedback to CAAV prior to December 19. After that, CAAV will release its final conclusion.

Jetstar Pacific Airlines is now facing a number of problems. It has been told to quit using the orange star and ‘Jet’ logo in order to avoid confusion with Australian Jetstar Airways. Meanwhile, it is now under comprehensive supervision in terms of aviation safety.

While the problems of branding and aviation safety have not been settled, the State Audit of Vietnam has criticized Jetstar Pacific for paying very high salaries despite the air carrier facing financial difficulties.

Jetstar Pacific is a joint stock airline which is operating under the Enterprise Law. Currently, the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) is holding 69.93 percent of total capital, Australian Qantas group 27 percent, Saigontourist 3.04 percent and Luong Hoai Nam, the old General Director 0.04 percent.
