Japanese Aeon retailer to build outlet in Vietnam

Aeon Co Ltd (Japan) retail group that is known for Jusco supermarket chain plans to enter Vietnam market by 2013.
Currently, Aeon is operating in Malaysia market.

Nagahisa Oyama, vice president cum business executive director of Aeon in ASEAN, said his group will open the first retail chains in some ASEAN countries.

Under the plan, Aeon will inaugurate the supermarket chain in Vietnam and Indonesia in 2013 and Cambodia in 2014.

Oyama said Aeon hopes to become one of the three leading retailers in Asia in 2020, with total revenue up to 45 billion RM (about $15 billion).

According to Oyama, the future of the retail sector is changing. Previously, leading retailers have originated from France, Germany, Britain and America, but in the next 10 years, it will be likely that a leading retailer will emerge from Asia.

Aeon is currently the 20th largest retailer in the world but the company hopes it will be in the world’s top ten in the near future. – Vietbiz24
