International visitors to Vietnam for work purpose down in Jan-May

The total number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first five months of this year increased 18%, but the total number of arrivals for work purpose saw a fall, General Statistics Office (GSO) reported.
According to the figure from GSO, in Jan-May, Vietnam has attracted 2.5 million international tourists, rising 18% from the same period last year.

Of which, the visitors to Vietnam for tourism and resort purposes reached nearly 1.5 million people, up 10.2% year on year, 442,400 arrivals for relative visiting purpose, up 81.4% y-o-y, and those who come to Vietnam for work purpose saw a fall of 0,8% y-o-y with nearly 419,000 arrivals.

Also in Jan-May, foreign tourists to Vietnam from China increased nearly 50% y-o-y with 546,900 arrivals, Japan with 204,200 arrivals, up 12.8%, Korea with 222,400 people, up 2.5%, the US with 201,400 people, up 4% and Cambodia with 168,700 visitors, up 75.2% y-o-y.

Tourists to Vietnam from Taiwan, Malaysia, France and Australia also saw a considerable increase from the same period of last year.

In 2011, Vietnam expects to welcome about 5.3 million international visitors and serve 30-31 million local tourists. The revenue from tourism sector is expected to reach 110 trillion dong, or 4.5% of the country’s GDP. – Vietbiz24
