Interbank average forex rate climbs to 20,673 dong/US dollar on Mar 19

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has announced to adjust the interbank average forex rate whereby the dong/US dollar FX rate today (March 19) will increase 10 dong from yesterday (March 18) to 20,673 dong.

With the interbank average forex rate of 20,673 dong/US dollar, the ceiling FX rate at commercial banks today (March 19) will be 20,880 dong/US dollar.

Thus, since the central bank has adjusted the forex rate so far, this is the biggest increase.

The strongest fall of the interbank average forex rate was 15 dong from 20,698 dong/US dollar on February 16 to 20,683 dong/US dollar on February 17.

According to Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon (Saigon Times) on March 17, from next week, maybe the daily forex rate announced by the central bank will be more flexible and daily adjustment will be wider from 20-30 dong/day.

Also according to Saigon Times, from March 16, the central bank started to buy US dollar with the lower price than the listed forex rate at some banks.
