Int’l Tourists to Vietnam +37% to 2.2M in Jan-May

International visitors to Vietnam are estimated to have soared 37% from a year earlier to 2.2 million in the first five months, said the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

The surge is attributed to the recovery of the national and world economy and efficiency of promotion campaigns, the Vietnamese government said on its website May 27, citing the ministry.

In May, the hospitality industry has welcomed 440,000 international tourists, up 50% on-year.

China, Australia, South Korea, Thailand, France, Malaysia and the U.S. remain the largest markets of the country during the period.

Last year, Vietnam welcomed 3.8 million foreign travelers and earned revenues of VND70 trillion (US$3.8 billion), down 11.5% and up 9%, respectively from a year earlier.

The country aims to welcome between 4.5 million and 4.6 million foreign travelers and earn tourism revenues of between US$4 billion and US$4.5 billion this year.
