Ineffective hydropower projects to be wiped

Facing the widespread investment in small and medium sized hydropower projects, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has recently issued a directive calling provinces to tighten the investment in hydropower plants.

Accordingly, about over 800 small and medium hydropower projects nationwide will be considered and purged to wipe ineffective ones.

Till date, Vietnam has 1,021 hydropower projects (24,246MW) being approved in 36 provinces and cities throughout the country. Of which, 138 big hydropower projects (18,366 MW) have been approved by MoIT and the remaining including small and medium hydropower projects are being managed by provinces.
