Indian garment firms seek partners

Indian garment firms were willing to offer Vietnamese businesses technology assistance and high-quality materials, a conference in Ha Noi was told on Tuesday.

Indian Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council chairman VS Valayuthum said that co-operation between the two nations’ garments companies would benefit both parties.

Vietnamese firms should participate in conferences, exhibitions and fairs, especially the Indian International Garment Fair in February next year, he said.

Viet Nam National Textile and Garment Group market research director Nguyen Thi Hong Tin said the nation’s garment exports were on track to achieve a value of US$10.5 billion by the end of this year.

The conference was part of a week-long visit by the representatives from leading Indian cotton manufacturers and exporters to Viet Nam to seek new co-operation opportunities.

Viet Nam was among the world’s top 10 exporters of garments and textiles but it had to import most of its materials.

According to the General Statistics Office, the country spent about $3.7 billion on imported materials for the garment and footwear sectors during the first five months of this year. — VNS
