Idico and PVN to invest in Long Phu 2, 3 thermo power projects

Under the Dispatch No 3266/VPCP-KTN, deputy prime minister, Hoang Trung Hai, agreed Vietnam Industrial and Urban Zone Development and Investment Joint Stock Co (Idico) to invest in Long Phu 2 thermo power plant and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam-PVN) to invest in Long Phu 3 thermo power plant in Long Phu Power Centre in the southern province of Soc Trang.

The Long Phu Power Centre has an estimated capacity of 4,400MW (two fold increase against Hoa Binh hydropower plant) with a total investment of $5 billion including $1.5 billion for Long Phu 1 power plant.

The Long Phu Power Centre includes three thermo power plants namely Long Phu 1 (capacity of 2x600MW), Long Phu 2 (2x600MW) and Long Phu 3 (2×1, 000MW).

As planned, the Long Phu 1 is expected to be finished in 2013-2014, Long Phu 2 in 2015 and Long Phu 3 in 2016-2017.
