ICT development hits growth of 20% last year
Viet Nam’s information technology sector reached a growth rate of 20 per cent last year, with the number of internet users exceeding one in every four people, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told President of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) Looi Kien Leong yesterday.
Dung expressed his appreciation for the co-operation between ASOCIO and the Viet Nam Software Association (VINASA), adding that he hoped the co-operation would improve in its efficiency.
President Looi Kien Leong, who is visiting Viet Nam to attend the ASOCIO General Assembly 2010 said Viet Nam has experienced strong development in information and communications technology, especially in the exportation of enterprise-level software.
Through the meeting, ASOCIO would share experiences of other countries in the region in building and implementing IT development policies with Viet Nam, he added.
ASOCIO is a group of IT industry associations representing various economies in the Asia and Oceania region, comprising of 21 official member associations.
Total annual revenue of information and communications technology of all ASOCIO members reached US$300 billion last year.
The ASOCIO General Assembly 2010 is being held between June 17 and 20 with activities being performed in Ha Noi and Quang Ninh Province’s Ha Long Bay.
Last year, Viet Nam was ranked by numerous international organisations as one of the leading countries in maintaining its IT industry growth rate and improving industry competitiveness. — VNS
