Hydropower sources are forecast to represent 62% of Vietnam’s total electricity capacity this year, according to the country’s national power development plan through 2015 with a vision for further development to 2025.

According to a proposal by the United Nation (UN), hydropower should not make up 30% of Vietnam’s total electricity capacity.
Currently, the Southeast Asian country is building 800 hydropower plants of various kinds with a combined capacity representing 40% of the nation’s total power capacity.
