Hue airport to close for repairs

Hue’s Phu Bai International Airport will be closed for a month from May 13 to allow repairs to be carried out on its only runway.

Phu Bai attracts flights from Cambodia, Laos, Japan and China which will have to use other international airports.

Viet Nam’s Central Airport Authority will oversee the repairs.

In 2020-30 it is planned to increase the airport’s capacity to 4000 passengers an hour and to receive 200,000 metric tonnes of goods and products a year.

By 2030 the airport should be able to receive large aircraft such as the A320/A321, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777-2002R.

The temporary closure follows decision no 710/QD-BGTVT signed by Minister of Communications and Transport Ho Nghia Dung. – VNS
