Ho Chi Minh City to host World Economic Forum on East Asia
The forum will discuss four main topics, the management of Asian economies, global risks, a green growth programme and a future growth programme.
Along with the World Economic Forum (WEF) taking place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 6-7, the HCM City Department of Foreign Affairs and the General Economic Issue Department (GEID) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held a seminar on economic diplomacy and information about the WEF on East Asia 2010.
The seminar attracted around 400 delegates, including government officials from regional countries, executives of world leading businesses, scholars and representatives from international press agencies.
With nearly 20 working sessions, including 5 plenary ones, a series of sideline activities will be held, such as banquets hosted by the State President and the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, an exhibition to introduce some businesses and vision of the Vietnam business community, a seminar on improving Vietnam’s competitiveness towards sustainable development and some publications in Vietnam.
Vu Quang Minh, head of the GEID, said the Government has established a national steering board for the forum headed by Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai. This is the first time Vietnam will chair the world famous forum, providing a good opportunity for the country to promote Vietnam’s image – a dynamic country which successfully dealt with the recent economic crisis. Local businesses will also have a good chance to meet with regional and international leading economic groups to set up partnership and access new ideals for development strategies.
