“Vietnam and the U.S. will mark the 15th anniversary of normalizing relations in 2010 and I’m optimistic in the White House leader’s trip,” Ambassador Michalak told reporters.
The diplomat noted Vietnam and the U.S. shared common benefits in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Washington expects Vietnam to raise its leadership role as well as responsibility in global regional issues especially as the country assuming the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s Presidency this year,” Michalak noted.
He added the U.S. government is mulling over more aid for Vietnam to develop infrastructures and the economy.
Last year, the U.S. was ranked the first among investors in Vietnam with $9.8 billion pledged.
The two sides are to boost negotiations to sign the agreement on investment soon and to help Vietnam join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.
