HCMC: cpi slows down to 2.38% in May
Ho Chi Minh city’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) slows down to 2.38 % in May from multi-months high of 3.16% in April, the city’s General Statistics Office (GSO) announced.
The biggest increase continued to be seen in foodstuff prices which soared 4.36% , contributed by cooking oil +13.99%, fresh cattle + 9.64%, live-stock +6.29% , processed meat +5.85%, eggs +3.82% , etc.
However, prices of almost all vegetable fell including beans -1.05%, vegatables -0.93%, partly helpful to pull down prices of food stuff.
Post and telecommunications was the only CPI component which saw lower prices, posting a drop of 1.72% from April.
Gold prices in May fell by 1.57% from April, yet up 39.49% on month and up 4.59% from December 2010.
On year-on-year number, HCM City CPI rose by 16.15% driven by restaurant and food service +23.71% ; electricity, water and fuel +20.33%, and transportation +20.13%.
Bucking the trend, prices of post and telecommunications was the only decliner, falling 5.81% on year. – Stoxplus.com
